5 Love Languages

The 5 Love Languages is a book by Gary Chapman which explains 5 ways that people want to be loved. When others are speaking those love languages they feel THE MOST loved and their "love tank" is full. However, when their language is not spoken they feel unloved no matter how much you try to demonstrate love in your own way...it's not enough.  If you are having a hard time communicating to your husband what it takes for you to feel truly loved perhaps you are not exactly sure or you need a little help. The book is a great resource. However, you can go over to the online quiz to find out your love language.

They say that your love language is the language you find yourself doing the most for others.  I love to serve and help others.  Its fun to me.  I've been like that since I was little.  With that being said, I love for my husband to help me.  My husband loves my undivided attention.  If I'm not giving it to him just the way he wants it we have some SERIOUS issues.  I'm the type of person that wants to carry on a conversation from two different rooms while I do laundry or dishes etc.  He wants me to sit down and get eyeball to eyeball.  So guess what, we get eyeball to eyeball.

Don't be surprised it it takes some time for have an appreciation for one anothers' style of love, but I certainly love the outcome of investment I have made in him and my marriage.  More importantly, isn't that how our Father loves us...individually and uniquely.  Our marriage is the only institution on earth where we are demonstrating Christ's love for his church (bride)

"For these people, actions speak louder than words."

"For some people, what makes them feel most loved is to receive a gift."

"This language is all about giving the other person your undivided attention."

"To this person, nothing speaks more deeply than appropriate touch."

"This Language uses words to affirm other people."

My love language is Acts of Service and my secondary one is Quality Time. Most people have a runner up. Boy, is my love tank full when The Mister is helping me get groceries out of the car and doing those dishes. Whats funny is, many times our spouse's language is totally different than ours.  Which causes us to grow because we have to step outside of our strengths and comfort zones in order to make sure we are filling their love tank.

The book is phenomenal, but if you just want to know what your love language is then take the test for yourself :)

Midnight Madness

Wanna know what its like to be awake in the middle of the night in my house while my husband and doggy are sleep?  NOISY.  Im up late on a Saturday night journaling and I hear my husband snoring away and next thing you know I hear my dog whimpering in his sleep.  Its like they were making a soundtrack for a zombie movie.  That's when you know its some good sleep!

If you lie down, you will not be afraid. When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Prov 3:24

Match Made in Heaven

The Mister and I took a fun personality test. It was very quick yet eerily accurate! I havent got the slightest clue what an aura is but I love personality tests. Click this link if you want to take the test. What is Your True Color Aura Test
CHARLAMAZING
Your Aura is Purple!
Personality: Purples hold themselves to sky high standards, and are always very graceful. Purple is envied, idolized, and copied without even realizing it. They are an icon for those who know you. Purple is the most down to earth aura, they are the typical guy or gal next door. Purples may think they are better than others but deep inside they know they are not. Purple is very practical. Other auras take a liking into purple. Idealistic and thoughtful, they have the mind and ideas to change the world. Purple has the charisma of a great leader. Purples have one of the most active imaginations, but tend to be more focused on what could be potentially possible than dreaming about the impossible. Purples live a well balanced life and prefer to stay as calm as possible.Having a personality color purple or violet as your favorite color means you are sensitive and compassionate, understanding and supportive, thinking of others before yourself. You are a gentle and free spirit. Purples feelings run deep and you can be quite sensitive to hurtful comments from others, although you would never show it. You are usually introverted rather than extroverted and may give the impression of being shy although this is not the case. You are creative and like to be individual in most of your endeavors, including your dress and home decoration - you love the unconventional. You inspire others with your creative thinking and your ability to deal positively with adversity. You can be secretive, with even your closest friends not really knowing you well. You dislike being part of the crowd. You don't like to copy others and you don't like them to copy you. You are a visionary, with high ambitions, dreams and desires, and a compulsion to help humanity and to improve the planet earth. Being the free spirit you are, you love to travel to experience different cultures and meet new people. You are a good judge of character and sum others up quite quickly and accurately, although you usually see the best in everybody. Time means little to you and you are often late for everything. You trust the flow of the Universe to take care of everything. You can be selfish and self-indulgent as you don't like being imposed upon by others beliefs and regulations.

Words that Describe Purple: Intuitive,Seeking, Creative, Kind, Self-Sacrificing. Growth Oriented, Strong, Very Wise, and Rare.
Purpose of Life: Saying Truths That Other People Dare Not Say
Love Life:You're very passionate but often too busy for love. You need a partner who sees your vision and adopts it as their own
Perfect Color Love Match: Red is the perfect mate for a purple they meet every standard of ours.
Friendship Color: Blue is the perfect friend for a purple due to there introvert attitude
Color Opposite:Your color wheel opposite is Yellow. While yellow people may be wise, they lack the manners and class needed to impress you
Yellow: Way to immature to meet our standards!
Pink: If outgoingness is on our “Have to have list” pinks are also one of the top choices for Purples
Green: Greens are way too shy and may be overlooked
Blue: Blue is one of the others that may meet our standards. They are deep and Sincere and is an awesome mate!
Orange: Can be just a little bit more mature than Yellow, but nawh I think we’ll pass
White: Way deep inside purples may have this strange feeling for whites

THE MISTER
Your Aura is Blue!
Personality: Blue’s are very loyal and can be the truest friend any aura could hope to find. Emotional and even a bit moody. Blues handle the truth very well. They take every event into stride. Blues are the calm spot in a sea of chaos. They think that the solution to most problems is open communication; they wish that people would be more real with each other. An emotionally driven personality, you need to be liked and accepted. You are a polite, cooperative person who seeks to create conflict-free surroundings. You possess highly developed powers of observation. Family is important to you and you sometimes find yourself in the role of being a caretaker. You take time to process and share your feelings.  You are genuine and sincere, and you take your responsibilities seriously. You have a deep need for peace and harmony in your everyday life. You appear to be confident and self-controlled, but may be hiding your vulnerable side. You are generally fairly even-tempered, unless your emotions take over - then you can become either moody and over-emotional, or cool and indifferent. While you are friendly and sociable, you prefer the company of your own close group of friends. You are a rescuer and love to be needed. You can be rigid - you like to stick to what is familiar to you- you stubbornly do things your way even if there is a better way. You can be quite manipulative but in a very subtle way. You make a loyal and faithful marriage partner and you are an honest, trustworthy and sincere friend. You are aware of others feelings and sensitive to the moods of others. You are approachable and friendly, always making people feel welcome in your life. You have a thirst for knowledge in order to gain wisdom and appear knowledgeable in whatever area interests you.

Words that Describe Blue: Emotional, Affected, Sensitive, Peaceful, Tranquil, Connected, Spiritual, Experimental, and Deep.
Purpose of Life:Showing Love to Other People
Love Life: Relationships are your top priority, and this includes love. You are most happy when you are serious with someone.
Perfect Color Love Match: Red: Committed and Passionate they are definitely a good mate (The Mister says that his blue cancels out the blue in my purple which leaves RED...so loyal!)
Friendship Color: When you and purple (charlamazing! yaay!) are together no one can stop you!
Color Opposite:Your color wheel opposite is Orange. Orange people may be opinionated, but you feel they lack the depth to truly understand what they're saying
Yellow: Too annoying to even take a liking to
Pink: You are very lucky if Pink even pays attention to you, their reputation may be in the way to start a relationship with them
Green: Another perfect match for blue! They have one of those personalities that make you want to be around them all the time.
Orange: They believe they are way too good for blues, which is not true at all!!
Purple: Without Blue there would not even be a purple, they are the best bet at finding your soul mate
White: Their studies get in the way from every flirtatious move you make to them

Take the test for yourself. What color are you?

Sticks and Stones

I wish I could say I've got this whole supportive wife thing all figured out. I think I get it right more times than I get it wrong.  Personally, that's saying a lot because I used to be the poster child for "when keeping it real goes wrong". But every now and again I have one of those learning experiences that remind me to take a step back and humble myself.

The other day The Mister was telling about his goals and preparation for his business, but all I could think of was what could go wrong and why this, why that, and what about...?  Long story short...I totally killed his vibe.  Then he said something really profound.  "I don't like compliments from anyone else but you."  So that I wouldn't miss the golden opportunity to get it right the next time I asked, "What exactly would you like me to say in a situation like this?"

He simply wanted me to say "Great job.  That sounds like a great plan.  Make sure you are doing what you need to do."  He simply wanted some encouragement and accountability.

Lessons learned: My opinion (besides Jesus) is the one he values most.  And never be too proud to humble myself to learn how he would like me to best handle that situation in the future.

So ladies, remember your opinion is most likely the only one that matters.  Never take your position of power for granted.  We sure know how to use it to manipulate and get our way. Lets use them to pour into our husbands!

Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit. Prov 18:21

Punch Lines #3

Inquiring minds want to know...do we want to have kids or when are we going to start having kids. Well, yes we do and that's for us to know and you to find out ;P

The Mister and I were talking about fertility and his answer to that was "A quickie a day keeps the doctor away".

How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice! Song of Solomon 4:10

Reality Show

We got a letter in the mail from a friend who's organization we support.  At the end of the letter it says, "You two should have your own reality show.  When I look at your names, it brings me such joy that I start gigglin'..."

Im not quite sure its safe for our home life to leave the four corners of this house.  Lets just be real, I only tell you what I want you to know on this blog LOL.  Do you ever feel like your family could have a reality show?

Punch Lines #2

Can someone please tell me how a creme filled Krispy Kreme doughnut sparked a nostalgic moment of when he smoked cigarettes for a stint?? Which I never knew!! Did I judge him a little bit...yes I did. Unfortunately, I cant disclose what direction that conversation went in.

I didn't want all of the creme in the doughnut so I was tapping the doughnut to get the creme out.  He says, "that reminds me of how I used to tap them cigarettes back in the day". I proceed to give him the side eye and #smh.

Punch Lines #1

Anyone who knows my hubby knows he can be quite the character.  He has been saying some funny stuff lately. I just play his hilarious comments on repeat in my head and Im laughing about it days later.  So check this out...

Lets just say the words "trickin' off" got thrown around. Somehow I smelled like "an old tub" after being fresh out of the shower and the other day I reminded him that we would be visiting a friends church called Fishers of Men. When we were in the car looking it up on the GPS he said "What church are we going to again... Friends with Benefits"?

He really has a way of keeping things interesting. Whats the craziest thing your spouse said/says?

Honeymoon

Chateau Elan This is a french winery and resort north of Atlanta. During the warmer months there are more eventful things to do such as horseback riding.  They have great food. The two restaurants we were able to dine at were Cafe Elan and Versaille. I loved the peach bread pudding and the homemade butter pecan from Cafe Elan. I ordered a pretty tasty steak at Versaille. The honeymoon was It was short lived but a much needed retreat. For the rest of our honeymoon we came back to OUR apartment :) and opened wedding gifts, went shopping, dined out, movies, and enjoyed one another.  Who wants to go back to real life after a week like that.

The week of...Murphy's Law!

If you dont know what Murphy's Law is, it simply means "anything that can go wrong, will go wrong".

It all started with the ice storm of the century. It turned out to be a blessing with many parts feeling curse-like. I got the whole week of the wedding off of work because no one could drive on the roads so practically the whole city was shutdown. As you know this was a DIY (do it yourself) wedding so I had PLENTY that needed to be done (I will post all pix of my projects :).

TO START WITH, the ice storm caused my reception site to keep me on pins and needles as to whether they would be open for business until the EVENING before the wedding. SECONDLY, I called to check on my cake and come to find out my cake lady was snowed in in Mississippi approx 4 days before the wedding. THIRDLY, one of my flower girls was snowed in WAAAY across town and her mother claimed that she didnt even know she was still in the wedding since she hadnt heard from me in so long! And her mom didnt have an operating vehicle to pick her up even if the roads did permit. FOURTHLY, my table cloths for the wedding never showed up on my doorstep! Honestly, I thought I had gotten ripped off because I never saw a confirmation email sent to my inbox and I had never heard of or used this site before. But something told me to check my email so I did a search and it popped up! At 2 am the morning of the wedding I discovered they were at UPS in Doraville! I was already having an afternoon wedding and the reception place did not allow us to get in and set up until the day of the wedding AND NOW someone has to go stand in line at UPS and get some table cloths??

Among other things that went wrong that slowly mounted up my to the massive knots I got in my back, shoulders, and neck were the fact that...I was down to NO phone minutes and still had plenty business to handle over the phone. My great grandma died the Saturday before my wedding so guess when the funeral was....ON MY WEDDING DAY! Therefore I couldnt make the funeral, my grandad didnt make the wedding and my videographer (uncle) canceled on me and decided he would rather go to the funeral...Who would rather go to a funeral than a wedding?? Im just sayin...I printed out my wedding programs after asking 2 people if they were ok and there was a big fat TYPO on the FRONT...the wedding date was wrong. I put January 11, 2011 rather than January 15, 2011! I figured no one would notice. Even though I brushed it off in the back of my mind I was still thinking should I reprint them? The the church was threatening me if I didnt send it a pastors license by 9 pm on like that Tuesday that I could not use the church. My aunt refused to rush and do it and I couldnt get in touch with The Mister's aunt who was officiating the wedding.

By the night before the wedding I had completely turned off my brain...after I came to the realization that I would have to completely get my weave re-sewn in the morning of the wedding. So I got all of about 3 hours of sleep. But pretty much I no longer cared if anything else went wrong. As long as we said "I do" mission was accomplished. However little small stuff still happened like my cake did not turn out how I asked AT ALL, it got smashed on one whole side on the way to the reception, the flower girls left their shoes at my aunts house, every button except 1 fell off of one of the flower girls dress and I think the same flower girl left her tights at my moms house. Either way, like I said I didnt care if they had to walk down the aisle bareleg with boots on...just get it over with already!

So there you have it...
